Alright, heres a few tips on how to get pressure on the QB ALL DAY LONG lol.
First of all, I like picking 3-4 based defensive teams because 4 LBS= confusion on the offensive line.
Second, when im on defense, I run my defense according to who you have on the field. So if you come out 4WRs, im not gonna stay in 3-4 just because my favorite blitzes are in there.
3rd, when I blitz, I send alot of 5-6(mostly 6)man rushes that include both OLBs, 1 middle linebacker/safety. I also do what I call a "fake blitz". Its when you put the guy you're controling on a blitz and then eaz him up towards the line of scrimmage towards a blocker, so that the blocker thinks your blitzing, but then you quickly pull back into coverage after the snap. Also, I sometimes do "Delay blitzes". This requires the same steps, but this time, you actually engage with the O-linemen, and then release off of him into coverage as fast as possible. But be careful with this one because you may not be able to get back into your coverage fast enough. Your OLBs in the 3-4 are usually the best pass rushers and end up with alot of sacks.
4th, now when I blitz, I dont just send alot of guys and get burnt in the secondary. No, when I blitz, I always try to make sure I get the 1st 2 options of my opponent's favorite targets that hes been stickin with throughout the game, covered for a long enough time that I can get my pressure to the QB.
5th, after you get that mind set of covering the 1st 2 favorite options, you gota know how are you going you are going to cover them. Now what I do throughout most of the game is go man to man PRESS coverage. Now you gota have good corners to do this, and if you dont, dont bump and run, but just play man to man with 5-6 man rushes(Bring alot of the 6 man rushes though). Now not only do you play just man to man D with a blitz, thats too simple sometimes. You also mix up the coverage with man AND zone. So for example, I play MLB on defense, thats my main guy on D. So if everyone is in man to man, and I know my opp sees the mismatch my SS on his TE, what im gonna do is not have my safety check him man to man. What Im gonna do, is put my safety in either a YELLOW HOOK ZONE,, A BLUE FLAT ONE, or a PURPLE CURL FLAT ZONE. Now whatever one I choose depends on what I think his TE will do. Most of the time, Im worried about the TE either doing a streak or a out route. So in most cases, I'll sort of double team the TE with my MLB and safety. How? By puttin my safety in a curl FLAT ZONE if Im worried about the TE doing an out, and with my MLB that Im controling, I'll take him, and watch the TE to see if he goes deep on a streak. Now keep in mind, TEs like Written and Gates will blow past you every time if you dont react on point to how quickly they can blow past your LB that you're controling.
7th, if the person does get the ball off on you, you GOTA make sure that you tackle him and get him down cuz there arn't alot of 6 man rushes with safeties back deep to prevent the big play.
8th, now if you're worried about screens, this is where YOUR scheming comes in. Now alot of times, you're gonna see people try to do 5WR shotgun screen. In that situation, don't blitz if you think its coming. Better yet, just audible to a cover 1 or 2 man under defense, and watch out for the screen. It also helps to pick DE contain for the screen passes.
9th, now if you got one of those people who scramble to the outside with their QB ALLLLLL day long, then use defensive end contain while blitzing OR just dont blitz and pick DE contain. Sometimes, you can even put the DTs on defensive end contain dependin on how well your opponent can scramble. Also, you pick zone CB blitzes to see if they'll run smack in the blitz.
6th, As long as you keep applying the same concept throughout the whole game, you will be straight. Dont get mad when the D gets big plays on you, because it is bound to happen, but you just need to practice it more and more and you'll get better with scheming and tackling after a person does complete the pass.
