A Cubs team fiercely trying to focus on the present could get its first

pitching prospect Jeff Samardzija.
The hard-throwing right-hander from Valparaiso, Ind., got word of his
first big-league promotion Thursday after the Cubs put closer Kerry
Wood on the disabled list, a source with knowledge of the situation
told the Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana. Samardzija is expected to
be in uniform for today's game against the Marlins.
The former Notre Dame football star might even start for the Cubs this weekend, though that could not be immediately confirmed. A Saturday start would push back Rich Harden's scheduled start to his sixth day -- a schedule that produced good results for Harden with Oakland earlier this year. |

yay!!!!! Ive been waiting for him to get called up.........and playing on the team I want to win the WS (since the Indians obviously wont) |

| I would like to watch this guy pitch. It sucked that he chose baseball over football because i thought he would have made a fine WR but this guy is one hell of an athlete. |

| So is Jeff a starter or reliever.
Since my Giants suck this year but playoffs still possible.
I will like to see the Cubs win the World Series so of course I hope Jeff does good. |

| i still think that Jeff shuld have gone to the NFL...That year he wuld have been the #1 WR taken...But him goin to baseball is still good since he wuld mke much mre money than if he went to the NFL |

2006 NFL Draft was a poor draft for WR. Its actually sad that Jeff was the best prospect because he is not an elite football prospect.
Santonio Holmes was taken first and he has shown some strides this past year. But I thought Jeff was overrated as a prospect but I thought he would have ended up a pretty good WR. |

ppl didnt even know he played baseball!!!!
and its normal for a college player to get drafted and spend a few yrs in the minors
saying he finally got called up is just... idk
why say it like that???
getting called up after a yr in the minors is very very good..
some ppl nvr make it outta the minors... and jeff is 23
and there have been tons of players who were nice in college but just couldnt make the transition to pro play
the reason why u nvr heard about him is because minor league players get no coverage
... and saying "he made the right choice since youll make more money playing baseball"
... uh what???
why does money have to be an issue
dude chose to play baseball because he had a greater love for it
i dont think he'll turn out to be a great pitcher...
he will nvr be an Ace
... he does have a nice slider tho
but so do alot of other pitchers =/ |

| jeff samardzija throws 99-100 MPH tops....he reached 98 today, hes got a nice slider, pretty good change up......if he stays healthy, he will be a top of the line starter in the pros....hes legit, much better in baseball than football
and most people who play baseball and football have a greater love for baseball, at least wat ive seen |
